INF351 - How To Build A Computer And Why?

Through lectures, readings, and extensive practical application we explored the history and implications of advancements in computer hardware and architecture.

Our studio practice involved working in teams to design and build small Arduino-based computers to solve specified problems. Our team designed and built a Pomodoro Timer, Chess Timer, and Restaurant Ordering System.

Throughout this process, I was able to apply design concepts learned in INF352 as well as explore industrial design strategies by designing and building our computer cases. I also contributed to the computing logic used for the timer programs.

INF315 - Information Practice In Organizations

In this course, we explored the various ways that information is produced, processed, and stored within organizations.

A semester-long field study assignment allowed our team to explore and apply the theoretical concepts covered in course lectures and readings surrounding the social contexts of information practice as well as analysis methodologies.

In this assignment, we derived interview questions and conducted interviews with a member of the Faculty of Information’s student services department. After analyzing our collected data we produced both a written analysis and a presentation to convey our findings.

Pictured here is an exerpt of our paper that I worked on.

INF313 - Computational Reasoning

This course provided an overview of high-level computational concepts such as data structures, algorithmic thinking, and computing logic.

Throughout the course, we gained experience in the language of computing as well as the conceptual nature on which interactive information systems are based.

During tutorials we would participate in interactive exercises by submitting answers and then discussing them as a class. Many of the concepts learned in this course were applied during our INF351 assignments.

INF311 - Information In The Cultural Imagination

In this course, we explored the cultural idea of information and information technology as it is and has been influenced through various cultural texts such as print media and film.

The deliverable aspects of this course involved analyzing cultural texts alongside critical academic readings through personal reflection, class discussion, research assignments, and group presentations.

Our final project involved the analysis of a film related to Artificial Intelligence. In groups of six, we performed a critical analysis of various scenes in relation to course readings and produced a timeline slideshow to present our findings.

Pictured here are some of the slides I worked on.

INF401 - From Classroom to Workplace

Throughout this multi-term course, we focused on the exploration and development of reflective academic practice. Through class discussion, we reflected upon our own experiences, potential personal biases, and possible future career interests.

We also explored various types of employers and organizations as well as the ethical issues that must be considered while working in the information field.

We worked on teams to profile an employment sector and construct a presentation of our findings.

Pictured here is a section of the presentation I worked on.
